Der Tod und das Mädchen

November 29, 2007 9:04 PM

One of Franz Schubert's finest songs. Recorded, inexpertly, live in a recital I did in Oxford about a year ago with my excellent accompanist Guy.

I apologise for the recording quality, but hope this entertains in any case.

Rough translation from the German:
Maiden: Pass me by! Go, you savage man of bones! I am still young: go, please, and do not touch me!
Death: Give me your hand, you beautiful, sweet-faced girl. I am a friend and do not come to punish. Be of good cheer! I am not wild. Gently in my arms you will sleep.

Thank you! I was horribly nervous about posting here, so your kind words are especially lovely to read.

I'm speechless, so please refer to what micayetoca says above!

This is great. I'm with micayetoca -- this adds diversity to our collection here, and in a well-done way. I'm glad you decided to post.

Upon listening to this again, I think we actually sang this or listened to it in a music class when I was in Germany.

Would you object if I sampled it for some electronic stuff I'm working on?

Go ahead and sample! I'd be honoured.
