That's All

March 9, 2008 9:22 AM

Here's a somewhat sappy song about a former lady friend in DADF#A (I broke my high E string the other night, so no tuning for that one). I wrote and put it together this morning.

I recycle a lot of my lyrics because I'm never sure what's going to happen to these songs, or if I'll keep them. So you might recognize some of these lyrics, I'm not sure.

It's so sad to talk about your best days,
when all that follows must go downhill.

So, what if I said you were my best,
and everyone else was a real let down.

It's okay if you don't want to be friends,
that's cool.

I just want to be your friend,
that's all.

Corduroy, I love these chord voicings. Seriously, this song has a rosy future. I like it a lot. It's like an acoustic version of an american analog set tune or something. This could be amazing with a carefully crafted wash of other instruments adding to the drone-y, melancholy goodness. And maybe harmonies?

Viva other tunings! High E-strings? Who needs 'em.

I thought there were some harmonies. I thought I heard a second voice in the part where you sing "so, what if I said you were my best..."

This is another example of your very simple but outstanding songs. I'm compiling a nice collection of your songs, keep them coming.

I think the second voice is singing in unison, isn't it?

It might be, I thought it was so low that it was hard to distinguish, but it could be that it was a bit low and in unison, and so it was harder to differentiate it from the other.

Umbú is right; they're in unison. Harmonies might be nice though, I don't think I've ever actually done them before.

Thanks a lot for the nice comments! Umbú, what do you mean by chord voicings? And I agree about other instruments, I just don't know what. I have a small organ, and was thinking of just having a low note come in at 2:31 and hold it for the rest of the song. Perhaps I could message folks on the mefi music collaboration page for other sounds.

Thanks to both of you again.
