Sugar, Sugar

On the day that I was born (in San Diego), the Archies' quintessential bubblegum pop song was a #1 hit (in England). This is a pretty straightforward version, although the guitars and bass and drums have all been replaced with marimbas and glockenspiels.

There are two marimabas (three tracks, though), two glockenspiels, tongue drum, flute, tin whistles, and a miniature dan trunh. The singing that sounds like me is me and the singing that doesn't is my wife.

This song was always a guilty pleasure. I love the marimbas and glockenspiels.

That was hilariously good. The hook suits the glock perfectly.

That's sweet (pun intended). I actually listed this as one of my "perfect pop songs" over on the talk thread!

It should be another 0.1592653589793238462643383279 seconds long :) .

Shouldn't be guilty, it's a good song! Better than the other choices I had: "Wedding Bell Blues" or "Come Together."

Heh, I saw that, just before posting. "I hope this doesn't make Dundee cross the song of his list," I thought.

Well, I try to keep songs as short as possible. (The last 30 seconds are not silent, by the way.)

Unfortunately for me, A HARD DAY'S NIGHT was #1 pretty much everywhere the day I was born and I cannot think of a way to cover it that isn't completely lame, as I hate the Beatles with a deep deep hate, and this song in particular.

There was some crooner in France but the song is shit. On the country charts it was Roger Miller's DANG ME, which I've been thinking about, but, man, the shallow end of the pool.

Dang Me would be hella fun to cover, I think...

Dang Me it is.

Well done, Karlos. Well done. Great tin whistle/flute stuff at the end. This cover is so soft and laid back, the song feels like it just woke up from an amazing nap with said sugar.

This is terrific. It really captures that "too much sugar--feels good but I might just get a cavity and a pounding headache shortly" feeling. Very nicely done.
