Tapping The Admiral

August 17, 2010 11:36 PM

To "tap the admiral" means to drink on the sly. You might feel a little woozy after listening to this tune, which begins with a chorus of sixteen blown alcoholic beverage bottles in hocket.

Instruments in order of appearance: vodka bottle (x9), beer bottle (x7), melodica, hammered dulcimer, Rhodes emulator, bass guitar, Appalachian dulcimer.

N.B.: the phrase "tapping the admiral" has an entertaining but disgusting origin.

This is loads of fun. I like the old school progression, almost sea-chanty-ish. And your choice of instruments is great. The hollow organic sound of the bottles is particularly clever given the subject matter.

The bottles sound almost unbelievably good -- great recording and playing! I quite enjoyed how the instruments pass a baton in this song. Very playful and quirky. And thanks for the link to the origin story, that was an interesting little tidbit.
