Se Rapprocher

For the Great Request Raffle, I was assigned Move Closer, by Phyllis Nelson.
I'd actually never heard the song before but on repeated listenings it really grew on me. Great slow groove.
Some of the lyrics were super-cheesy so I thought a solution would be to sing it in a different language. Maybe French?
Then it occurred to me to go FULL ON SERGE GAINSBOURG and here we are.

Really sorry for the awful French translation. A combination of my horrible French* and some wonky online translation.
My sincere hope is that actual French-speakers get a genuine laugh at my expense.

*In Ontario, we have mandatory French in school but can drop it grade 10. I bolted from the French classroom on the last day of grade 9, in a spray of gravel. To my eternal regret.

I like this a lot. I like the original, cheese and all, but this version makes it sound kind of sad. If you didn't know the lyrics (or can't understand French - I studied til end of High School and its still beyond terrible) I think the chorus might sound like someone pining for a love they can't have or something. So you took something really familiar to me and actually made it brand new. Monsieur, I salute you.

Yeah, I'd never heard the original either, but this is a whole 'nother level of ... haw-haw? Neat!

I think you should maybe have bought me dinner before I listened to that, chococat. Sexay.
