A stompy, Floyd-y thing with downbeat lyrics that hopefully end on a note of optimism.

YES. Yes, this is great. It did things I wasn't expecting which is the best. What a BEAUTIFUL mix too.
The vocals have something discordant happening, a filter?, which I found a little bit distracting from the big, open sound of the rest of it.
By the second verse, I'd be tempted to have something noodling between the gaps in the vocal - an electric guitar or synth probably? Or to drop the backing to be a little bit more sparse. To create contrast.
The guitar solo in the middle is BOMB. The noodling after that, that's what I'd bring in in the second verse at a lower level.
Incredible finale. If you ever want floyd style backing vocals over that ending, hit me up.

Thanks both, that's very kind of you. No mix or arrangement is ever final - we're usually just limited to the number of hands we have. Original lyrics below, but I think we added a bit in the bridge.
