Just Blew Into Town
March 1, 2007 2:07 AM
Here's a song from the RPM '07 CD that I just popped into the mail today. In the end I was able to get 8 presentable tunes together within the space of the month. Whew!

Flap knocks one out of the park once again. My music has a crush on your music! Awesome stuff. Can't wait to hear the full project.

Extra points for rhyming telephone pole to Nat King Cole.
You know, mailing the thing was actually one of the deciding factors that kept me from signing up for the RPM this year. I thought the CD had to be there by Feb. 28 and that meant sending it two weeks before for me (of FedExing it, at god knows what rate). So, can your stuff already be heard in the RPM Jukebox?

You are totally my favorite mefi music-er. Your instrumentation makes me happy.

flapjax, you already know how I feel about your work.
This is simply excellent. No expansion necessary. Love your falsetto.

Thanks for your comments, folks! They are much and truly appreciated! I'm very grateful to you all for taking the time to listen and respond.
And mica, as of right now I'm sure nothing can be heard in the jukebox at RPM, cause I just mailed it (from Tokyo) yesterday. Also, according to their site, it may take as long as a month to get everything into the jukebox. At least, that's what I think I remember reading somewhere on their site.

By the way, for anyone who might be interested in reading it, I did an interview recently with some folks from a new webzine here in Japan (it's in English, though) called "gyaku". I mentioned MeFi Music in it, as well as the RPM project, and we discussed lots of stuff, including "protest" music. Anyway, if you wanna check it out, it's here.

Ynoxas, man, you are too sweet to put that on the blue. Much obliged, my friend!

This is great! You really have a great voice - I think someone's already mentioned Horace Andy elsewhere?

Indeed they have, and I still haven't gotten around to checking him out. Gotta do that!

i used to have a map of new york
but i left it back in budapest
when i got back to brooklyn
they really put me to the test
they asked me where i was going to
i said i planned to stay right here
they said hey that's way too far to go
i said that's funny cause it seems so very near
i just blew into town and i'm spinning round and round
they built a railroad through my kitchen
here comes the eight eleven
just as i'm frying up my eggs in the morning
along comes the nine oh seven
the kinfolk said samm move away from there
but i'm happy here don't you know
i sip my morning coffee
while i listen to that lonesome whistle blow
i just blew into town and i'm spinning round and round
i've got a dump truck full of drum machines
they're filling it up to the brim
gonna rock the block like a clock non-stop
it's gonna be bigger than fat boy slim
i've got a stack of distortion pedals
as high as a telephone pole
gonna link 'em all together in a daisy chain
til they sing like nat king cole
i just blew into town and i'm spinning round and round
i feel like i been severed down the middle
half of me wants to go back home
the other half wants to float up and away
through that hole in the roman pantheon dome
now if i travelled to the ends of the earth
and came back with a thousand stories to tell
you'd still be better off listening to the echo
of the ocean roaring in a seashell
i just blew into town and i'm spinning round and round
