Cheese Whiz

I have no idea why I decided to choose that name half a life ago. It is a 12-string fingerstyle barnburner played with pinky slide.

It's in open G tuning. I digitized it from cassette--it's part of a series of posts from the same old tape. The process went fine until the end, when something weird happened with my tape recorder. I decided to leave that part in anyway.

What a great sound! Slide on a 12-string being played like that, with that sort of constant, driving motion, is really fantastic. Almost sounds like more than one instrument.

Very nice, again. And the ending goes perfectly well with the song and it even sounds intentional.

It is intentional! The four-track worked fine. I played the end part with the slide.

i've been loving these 12 string recordings. i think i'm going to collect them for a bike-riding mix.
i've got a theory along the lines of "these tunes + 2 wheels + spring = zen"

Yeah, this is very likable. Love that big, chiming sound the 12-string has, and the slide makes it all the more interesting. And the ending is GREAT. Let's hear it for faulty technology! Why, to get that weird liquid effect without it, we'd have had to half-submerge you in a swimming pool, and sort of pulled you up and back down into the water a couple of times, as you played. Which wouldn't have been good for the guitar.

Thanks, Flapjax at midnite--but I was bad at getting across a "wink, wink" on-line in my original description. There was nothing wrong with my trusty 4-track. I rehearsed the ending to simulate a tape malfunction using the slide. I like the swimming pool idea, too, but you'd need one of those weird carbon guitars for it to be sustainable.

I knew that (read your "intentional!" comment above), but I thought I'd play along with the original joke just a little bit... oh well.

NICE TUNE!

Oh no! Why isn't there a 'delete comment' function for times like this.

Sometimes it really drives me crazy not to hear or express vocal cues in these 'conversations.'

Feeling foolish now. Slinking away to the corner slowly.

Man, that's just dang fantastic. And now worries, umbú; misreading one another in several directions at once is pretty much a mefi tradition. For what it's worth, the process for me went something like this.

1. Man, this is really great.
2. Whoa, what the fuck? Did his tape recorder have a spasm?
3. Or, maybe he was just—
4. Oh, I guess so: "something weird happened with my tape recorder".
5. But, wait a second. I mean, it'd be a great stunt to pull on a slide tune. Taking the piss, surely.
6. "The four-track worked fine. I played the end part with the slide."
7. I knew it!

So, heh.
