two lovers
Gentle, warm, almost mantra-like song featuring guitars, piano, bass, lap steel, drums, bass, melodica, and vocals -- kinda sorta about seeing love as an art project. [more inside]
A Birthday Song (Older and Wiser)
I asked Jessamyn what she wanted for her birthday, and she asked me to write a sincere song for her. I just finished the recorded version, but I did get to sing it to her, live and in the middle of the woods, on her actual birthday. NOW THAT'S SINCERE! [more inside]
Summertime Blues
In Honor of the Season. . .
we will grow
This is a pretty stripped-down new song in kind of a singer-songwriter style. I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts. [more inside]
Staring Into Headlights
Dark sounds for an old barn. [more inside]
The Plan
I love this song! Upbeat, dancy, kind of weird. [more inside]
Cooter Brown
Whimsical number about a famous historical character. Sending this one out to Jessamyn. [more inside]
Sweet Little Baby
Everybody I know is popping out kids. So for all the parents, I wrote a lullaby. Please experiment with your children and let me know if this puts them to sleep.
Natchez
A lazy song about drifting down the Mississippi, written by Rob P, performed by Bone Table. (That's me on the slide.) [more inside]
Way up high
I've decided to face my embarrassment and post this song. [more inside]
Flyball's Lament (the cover one)
A version of my still-favorite all-time MeMu song by the inimitable Great Big Mulp, for the June challenge. [more inside]
My little place
A repetitive, driving song featuring my first foray into recording piano-ery. It also has a jammy rockout outro (rockoutro?). [more inside]
Cheese Whiz
I have no idea why I decided to choose that name half a life ago. It is a 12-string fingerstyle barnburner played with pinky slide. [more inside]
La Tarea
A musical version of an old Spanish assigment from high school that I found in a box. [more inside]
Bucketful of Money
A characterization of a rich womanizing pimpy kind of guy. [more inside]
hospital walls
Guitar-based melancholy song with vocals. I've had this around for several years, and keep thinking I'll continue to dabble with the outro. I think it's time to just let it out. I wrote this after the breakup of a 7 year relationship. I like the lyrics, and the little solo, and many other things about it. The long fade-out ending is over-indulgent and a bit off-key, but imperfect as the song may be, it has heart.
Pocket Venus
A not-so-tall song about a short, sweet object of desire. Wait, can I try that again? [more inside]
What Happend
Just A quick instrumental all mixed in the Gopher Hole
done with my acoustic guitar.
Calhoun County Blues
This is a true story of my ventures right after Katrina.
I recorded the tracks yesterday on my birthday.
It is a condensed version of the song. The original story still continues today while living in Kentucky
Every artery
A song mostly inspired by having a stressful job where I deal with lots of nervous/frustrated/severely impolite people, and its effect on me. It's a little rough because the main track is recorded on a boombox with a verrrrry old cassette.
Stuck out on
My lyric-writing "system" has often been dozens of little stickies on the desktop, thoughts, ideas, scribbles... and then sometimes when I'm frustrated I'll make a song made up of various combinations that seem to make sense. Like this one!
Devil Blues
Satan has bad days too.
184rtm
portamento-o-o-o gliding.
