Sweden

A cover of a friends song, on my new banjo-uke.

The original is about Norway, but I changed it to Sweden to annoy her, and because I am a quarter Swede (and have never been there). The original is also a cappella (sp?).

This is probably the last song I will post in quite a while, as I will be with unreliable internet for the next few months. But hopefully I'll have enough access to keep up with other peoples songs.

Now it's time to run around,
Now it's time to smile.
Now it's time to feel the sun,
Haven't felt it in while.

We might go to Sweden,
We might go to sleep.
We might go to Sweden,
You and me.

I like the echo you put on it, it made it sound submarine, like a lullaby from deep down somewhere. Thanks!

I agree -- the banjo-uke sounds great. I like the lo-fi vox as well (though I think this song could have worked as a short instrumental too).

My favorite parts were when the banjo-uke and the vocals were just barely out of sync, as in the first "We might go to Sweden" line. That's a great effect.

Very cool stuff. Do you listen to Grizzly Bear at all? The atmosphere & tone is a little bit like them. (this also made me remember my banjo-uke vs. banjo buying decision a while back. I went the banjo route, but still ebay banjo-ukes every once in a while)

Glad you all like the banjo-uke as much as me.

tmcw: Yeah, I just got Grizzly Bear's Horn of Plenty and Yellow House . I can see how, as you said, the atmosphere and tone are similar. I think I'll have to one day buy a banjo, but this one fit my plans for this next year in being light enough to just carry around. And man! banjos are expensive!

This is a lovely song - reminds of some early Magnetic Fields songs, though I can't say which ones cos I haven't listened to them for ages... Josephine? Anyway, would you and your friend mind if I attempt to cover it sometime? It's really one of my favourite songs that I've found here :)
