14 Candles
April 20, 2010 12:14 PM
Featuring vocals by my friend Rachel Smith, from Arousal Disasters.
Drums performed by Rob Greenway/Brilliantfish. This song was written as a tribute to the victims of the École Polytechnique massacre, December 6, 1989. It's framed as a fictional love letter from a boyfriend of one of the victims.
If you're interested in more from Rachel (which you should be), I played guitar all over Rachel's latest album Famous Secrets (2007).

I listened to some of the tracks from Rachel's cdbaby site and I have to say, this recording does a better job of capturing her voice than her "official" album does. The other tracks add too much sparkle / top end / breath sounds (a trendy production approach) to her vocals, while the recording here allows her voice to sit much more naturally in the mix, and I like it much more. It's great work.

Fantastically lush? Seriously this is very good. I'm glad you've posted it.
