it's the now

Listening to some old songs of mine, I came upon this one from 2004. It's a rather sweet, romantic little thing written about a depressing period in my relationship at the time.

Some of the arrangement/production is a bit embarrassing (fake strings, although it kind of works, and questionable drums), while other parts are actually sort of awesome (the weird percussive static, which I remember sampling from our shitty midtown intercom). In the chorus, you can't really hear the word "now," which is maybe unfortunate.

baby i've done a little thinking
it's the now that you and i are missing
there's too much talk instead of kissing

it's the now you and i are missing

we live our lives fixed on destination
forgetting smiles through all our concentration
on our house with insulation but no foundation

it's the now you and i are missing

i think it's time we danced soft and slow
curled up close and whispered secrets low
i think it's time we learned a whole new flow

it's the now you and i are missing

Dreamy... I love how softly smudged out the instruments sound, like the audio equivalent of watching through a gauze.

This is so lovely! I REALLY like it a lot. The mix is really interesting, I love the moments the bass pokes in it's high moments.

Thank you both! There is a reverby haziness to the thing, for sure.

This is G.O.O.D. man. Doesn't sound depressed to me at all. Your voice is really nice on this.
