Party People (Get On the Dancefloor)

January 11, 2007 10:52 PM

This is a recently recorded song that'll probably go on my next release. I'm not sure yet about the mix, but I guess it's good enough in its current state for a spin around the MeFi block. Party down y'all. [lyrics inside]</small]

oops... got an extra little" Here's da woids:

PARTY PEOPLE (GET ON THE DANCEFLOOR)

who'll help me find the next beast to kiss
i know some of you folks just aren't ready for this
who'll be my partner in breaking the law
who's got that certain je ne sais quois
party people get on the dancefloor

friends are you tired do you feel stressed
inappropriately dressed for success what a mess
are you here now or never (the less)
you know that you're guilty when will you confess
put your hands in the air like you just don't care

shake it like a ball and chain
shake it like to make it rain
shake it so's to ease the pain
shake it til it shakes your brain
party people get on the dancefloor

isn't it odd it seems so uneven
even the odds are against all believing
ain't no use crying don't bother grieving
whatever we lost there'll be no retrieving
hands in the air i just don't care

fall through the crack
touch the smokestack
lay around this shack
til the soul train gets back
all the best hits at the end of my wits
call it like you see it i'll call it quits
party people get on the dancefloor
put your hands in the air like you just don't care
i know you just don't care

Damn, f@m - what's in the water in Tokyo? That's some FINE music. Are those software synths? It didn't do what I expected it to do - which, of course, is a good thing and a bad thing all at once.

I like the vocals a lot. Very cool track.

Ha! What FOF said. I wasn't expecting this. Very pleasant surprise though!

Thanks, y'all! FOF: Nah, no onboard synths in use on this track. The bass line is a JUNO 60, which, incredibly, I found at a Tokyo neighborhood junk shop for 10,000 yen (about a hundred bucks)! I use that JUNO a lot, I really like it. The little keyboard "solo" is from the venerable Casio VL-Tone, a tiny little thing that, you know, looks like it should have a calculator function as well. I ran it thru a bit of distortion.

Excellent work, F@M. Very chill.

Mmm...burbly. The gentleness of the music against the dance party lyrics makes me smile.

Meh. I kept waiting for things to "take off" -- after all, this should be a dance tune or it's horribly mistitled. Double meh. Sorry, that's just how I see (or hear) it. At any rate, I think you want "quoi" instead of "quois". And the lyrics has "aren't" when clearly the word that's sung is "ain't".

Well, five years after posting this here to MeFiMu, I finally got around to making a music video for it!
