Summer Follows Redux

Impossible Bookings is a collaboration I kinda sorta foisted upon cicadaverse, who initially posted the instrumental version of this track 6 months ago. I put words to what he'd created, we each reworked what we had into shorter form, he remixed my vocals and added to the instrumentation...then life happened to us both. We caught up recently after a few months off, remastered it, and called it good.

The name I proposed for the collab comes from a section of the Amtrak site I happened to get a glimpse of over yeahlikethat's shoulder when I was staying with her in New York in late April: "impossible bookings," referring to the company policy regarding trips booked but unable to be completed. It seemed to make sense, especially since this "band" is a long-distance collab and would be fairly difficult to actually book!

Anyway, ad astra per aspera—I'm just glad our sensibilities have thus far meshed and I was able to add something to cicadaverse's shoegazey dreampop. We'd started working on another track in the spring as well, and there are some more ideas for tracks to come, so hopefully we can make this at least a periodic thing. Much love and thanks to cicadaverse for patiently rolling with me on it so far!

I noticed pyramid termite has been so good about including lyrics in the vampire deer posts, so I thought maybe I should go back and add notes here. Definitely will try to do this in the post itself in the future. These are the words, for anyone's later edification.
From incantations and from hearts upon the sidewalk
Came my redemption and my loss and nights of long talks
Our private universe was sweetness never-ending
My darkest mirror, smallest sun, heaven forfending

Summer follows… I’m so hollowed out

Where do you go when the love you had is embers?
What can you do with all your memories’ Decembers?
I keep the things you gave me locked inside my heart
God, I wish that you’d tried more—we never got to start

Summer follows… I’m so hollowed out
And I know that we could be—oh, I knew without a doubt
Summer follows… A lifetime incomplete
Your beginning, my new ending (I'm so hollowed out)—we may never be

And we’ll never, we’ll never, we’ll never, we’ll never be here again…

She’ll never write you songs; she’ll never crack your code
But she’s security, she’s love—you think she’ll hold
From winter of our discontent to spring of fortune
The body is a trap to all these boys who’re orphans

And I knew that we could be—oh, I knew without a doubt
Summer follows…

Summer follows… I’m so hollowed out
And I know that we could be—oh, I knew without a doubt
Summer follows… A lifetime incomplete
Your beginning, my new ending (I’m so hollowed out)—we may never be

And we’ll never, we’ll never, we’ll never be here again…
(Summer follows... I'm so hollowed out.)
(And I knew that we could be—oh, I knew without a doubt)
And we’ll never, we’ll never, we’ll never, we’ll never, we’ll never…
Be here again...
(Summer follows...)
Be here again...
(A lifetime incomplete)
Be here again...
Your beginning, my new ending—we may never be
