cover of Freedom '90 by George Michael
I’ve been working on a musical collaboration with a fellow musician friend of mine during these crazy coronavirus times, in hopes of generating something fun and creative while we have all this spare time not working or gigging. Here's the second song from that collaboration.
cover of Galileo by the Indigo Girls

Good So Bad
This is my take on a song by one of the hosts of [dopey podcast](http://dopeypodcast.com), the one they close out every episode with. Came out kinda like a ska tune somehow. Got my daughters doing a little background vox.
Safe and Sound [Capital Cities cover]
Jessamyn asked me to cover this song a long time ago, and I set about it at a snails pace. It's finally done! (Sorry it took so long, darlin.) It started out in my mind as, "What if New Order or the Cure covered it?", and it turned out sounding like me covering it. I worked more over the past month to make sure it sounded the way I wanted it to, and I learned a lot about Garageband along the way. I'm kinda proud of it. And I'm glad it's over. [more inside]
What Makes You Beautiful

Airport
It was 1978. I was 13. And I bought my first album, The Motors, because I loved this song more than life itself. [more inside]
Happy (Carpenters cover)
Popgasmic cover of the Carpenters' sappy-but-intriguingly-odd tune for the Carpenter's Coverfight which went live today. [more inside]
Hallelujah (one more time, with feeling)
Yet another cover of the Cohen standard, but at least I've got an excuse this time. [more inside]
Sugar, Sugar
On the day that I was born (in San Diego), the Archies' quintessential bubblegum pop song was a #1 hit (in England). This is a pretty straightforward version, although the guitars and bass and drums have all been replaced with marimbas and glockenspiels. [more inside]
My Train is Coming
One of my contributions to an XTC tribute album project from 2001. The song, written by Andy Partridge, was taken from a rough demo floating around on bootleg cassettes, but never actually released by XTC. [more inside]
Death and the Maiden
Cover of the Verlaines. [more inside]
I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock'n'Roll (cover)
This was requested by micayetoca, and so here it is. Features Marxophone and autoharp. [more inside]
Then He Kissed Me (Ultra GAMELAN Mix!)
A cover of "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals that I threw together this morning, primarily featuring gamelan instrumentation. [more inside]
I Don't Want to be Here
Recorded back in '01 for the Chalkhills.org King For a Day XTC tribute compilation CD. Written by Andy Partridge, but never recorded by XTC. This was a one-off project, but eventually led to the formation of my XTC tribute band, and we played it live once or twice. [more inside]
Dammit: Reprise
A revision of my earlier version of this cover, since I had a night to burn at school. Bigger, a bit less background noise, a little more banjo.
The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side (cover)
ORthey requested that I do a cover of "The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" (by The Magnetic Fields) and so here it is. He wanted me to use autoharp and drum machine, but because I am churlish I did not in fact use either. And to add insult to injury, I didn't even sing it myself! I got my wife to do it! [more inside]
September Gurls
I Am John
Say gnfti, how's your falsetto doing? Why, I'm glad you ask! Here's a Loney, dear cover.
Only Listened One Time
This song is not actually a cover of any actual song, even though it pretends to be for reasons that will become obvious when you listen to it.
crazy
A cover of the first verse and chorus of the Gnarls Barkley song, primitively recorded live a while back when I had a cold. My wife was really into the song and I recorded this for her as a goof, but it came out kinda good.
Mrs. Green
Semi-acoustic cover of "Mrs. Green" by the power pop band the Posies. This was done by a 3 piece band (two guitars, one bass) group I was in a while back. (We never could find a drummer, so...) I'm singing lead and also a back up part near the end. The other band members are Chris Otto and Terri Doherty. Chris did lead guitar, backing vocals, and some keys. Terri played bass. I think I did some random percussion and guitar strumming as well. (Please delete when/if covers are determined to be a problem here.)
Ana Ng (acoustic)
This is an acoustic cover of the wonderful TMBG song Ana Ng, done on a four track recorder many years ago.
Though I did once see "I don't want the world, I just want your half" painted on a bridge (it was really surprising and cool to discover), we substituted "Homies '88" in its place because we had recently seen that on a bridge and thought it a bit absurd that someone took the time and effort to paint such a doofy message.
Welcome to the Jungle (acoustic)
This is an acoustic cover of the very excellent They Might Be Giants song Welcome to the Jungle. As a gag, the beginning instrumental bit copies the Guns N' Roses song Welcome to the Jungle.
Though my old "band" did this, just about every instrument on this track (including the backup vocals) was done by one bandmember.
