Beach Casanova

Sometimes there's a man - I won't say a hero, 'cause what's a hero? - but sometimes there's a man. A man on a beach. A Beach Casanova. NSFW. [more inside]

Another Saladabar song. This is a rough mix of a song we were asked to cover for a compilation of 80s Japanese rock songs. [more inside]

Super Disco Breakin' (Beastie Boys Cover)

With piano ivories, shimmering vocals and far too much sincerity, I have transmographied the Beastie Boys' energetic party-chant into a mostly miserable, quasi-beautiful, semi-epic, completely human piano ballad. [more inside]

At The Bar (NSFW lyrics)

Playful hip hop song about a typical summer night in Portland with me and my friends. Beats by me (kapn.fülz), mic work by myself and partner on all my rap tracks, Juicy Karkass. [more inside]

This Is Why I'm Fantastic

by Fantastic Plastic Mims; my first foray into the mashing of up. Please be kind, this took me well over ten minutes.

Manifesto

Hip-hop has been a passion of mine for a long time. And recently, some friends of mine and I got together to produce an entire album. This is the latest effort from me, as featured on our upcoming album. Sure, it's a demo, but it's free!

That Bomb

Another "can it be a rap song?" From the point of view of an elf that worships the a-bomb ("the hallowed ground is los alamos..."). It's only 2 minutes but it's packed, pay attention. There is nothing like this, I would say modestly, so I don't know what will happen when people hear it. The elf is a theme on the album... a nuclear terrorist in this case.

Freedom

the constitution, drug policy, iroquois league, patriotism, terrorism, puddles, winter rye, urban decay, moses, the hudson river: it’s a rap song, can you believe it?

Thou Shalt Always Filter

"My deepest sympathies for posting this. I lack all attempts at rhythm and meter, and don't even have a nice English accent to back things up!"

Wildside

Crickets, guaguancó rhythm, double bass, jarana guitar, one singing voice and another one rapping.

Talkin' Atheistic Blues

A song for Franky, his wife who shops at Whole Foods, and their kids who live on YouTube. Above that, a song for George himself. I wrote this back behind enemy lines. The beat was made upon my return and it was recorded the next day.

Saturday night at the Ranch

This is what happens when the neighborhood kids crash my party. I dropped the beats, they uh, did something. There's not much musical talent here per se, but it is an interesting social snapshot. There were four kids, it's difficult to make them out because they all sound the same. It's really funny to me that they all think that they are future rap stars. Fo Shizzle!

Terracota

As per request, this is the track that immediately follows Au Courant. The speaking is samples from a beat poem by Burroughs and the rhymes are mine. This is one of those songs that you toy with for months before you're happy with it. I am also struggling with the levels so any assistance would be much appreciated! (work-in-progress)

Au Courant

Experimental electroclassical hip-hop track. First one to name the classical piece I lifted for my main brass sample gets a lollipop. (Hint, I play it in entirety in incredibly high-pitched, fast motion near the end of the track).

iLust Your iPod

I stare at you across the lecture hall in Psychology class. Your long, white cord and your smooth rectangular body. If I had to narrow this track down to a particular genre I would have to go with "electro orchestral folk-hop." This beat is a impassioned symphony expressing the desire for iNtimacy in today's society.

The White Whale

The weekend before last found me hanging out with my special lady friend in the historic district of New Bedford, MA. Now, New Bedford is really a rather depressing place, being one of the eastern cities that has outlived its major industry, but one lovely thing we did get to see was the Seamen's Bethel, the church in which Moby Dick's famous Father Mapple sermon was delivered. Oh, and I promise never to attempt to rap again. (And it's NSFW)

MC Pizarro Explorer Rap

A friend of mine decided to start a hip hop group made up of 15th and 16th century explorers who, according to the premise, actually did discover the Fountain of Youth, are thus immortal and are rapping about their exploits. This was my contribution. There's no chorus, but there are three verses. The second one's actually my favorite.

shout out to cortex

More "rap?" from my kids. They were shy this time because they knew it was going to be on HiFi. Whatever, it's fun and all original. This might be getting old already. I'll be doing something of my own eventually.

F**K you

Another by my band Evening, this one is more on the grime side of things. Has some pretty nasty lyrics.
posted by grex on Jul 12, 2006 - 7 comments

Cuz I rap like this.

This is my son "rapping" to original music that we made together on a Korg Triton LE. I don't think the levels are normalized and after he finishes rapping it just drones on. It's cute, and the background music isn't bad. It's funny because the music is really morose and dark but there's a little kid voice working it. Enjoy.
