Officer? I'm In A Band!
A jaunty (for us) Carbon 7 number from last August. I was making notes on my phone of little snippets of conversation to use as song titles. No clue how we got there, but it seemed hilarious at the time. Utterly improvisational. [more inside]
Three Way Mirror
Track one off our most recent release, a dual album set called Infrared & Ultraviolet. This is the first song on Ultraviolet. For once we get right to the point, & make a short & sweet 8 1/2 minutes. Made up on the spot - totally improvisational. Titled such because there's three of us & we mirror one another as we play. Plus, it breaks space. [more inside]
Florida Lee
Carbon 7 is an improvisational/experimental trio that creates spontaneous music at the moment it's recorded. I left a tad of dialog at the beginning, so you could here our "process." Dennis gives Ron a hard time about choosing a key, then I call out C# & start it off. Clocks in at a whopping 26.5 minutes, but it evolves slowly the entire way. [more inside]
Want Trouble
Moody, jazzy little tune that explodes towards the end. About the delicious dread of falling in love when both people have baggage.
This is my second big attempt at faking swing drums, so pointers would be helpful. As per usual, I started out wanting a sparse mix but it got away from me a bit. [more inside]
The Elevator Clown
From the 12-21-14 Carbon 7 session Inter-Sol-Stice. We went from meeting every couple of months down to 1 or 2 a year, & I fell behind in mixing, so this was somewhat of a forgotten session. A minor epic at 18 minutes, but it holds together. [more inside]
Oort Cloud Rain
Another improvisational recording from 3-9-13, the night comet Pann Starrs 2013 first because visible in the Northern Hemisphere. We recorded in celebration of the celestial event. [more inside]
Cloud Ships
A mid-tempo piece, built around the opening drum riff. Carbon 7 is an improvisational jazz/space/rock trio that just makes it up on the spot. [more inside]

Workshy
An abstract and impressionistic take on the wonderful world of work. Or something like that. Whatever. Listening to it afresh from the distance of several years, I've no idea what the fuck I'm banging on about here. I was probably stoned out of my box at the time. Disgarceful behaviour for a doctor - tsk tsk. Another extract from the extensive but wholly disreputable Dundee Archive. NB: this product contains faint traces of jazz-lite.....
Last Orders (aka Tom Waits For No Man)
Another one from an acoustic-based set recorded some time ago now. A giant cliche in a way, I suppose - but it has a kind of addled charm... [more inside]
heir to the would-have-beens
i just finished moving my pile of equipment from the garage into the house for winter, and to celebrate i did a special mix of the latest song from the project mentioned here to share with y'all.
Spacetalk
A Van Winkle side project, Kurt Kostokos on guitar and drums, and Dave Appelbaum on keyboards. Definately of an exploratory sonic nature...
Meat And Crackers
Me on keyboards with Van Winkle (bass, drums, electric guitar)
Autumn Fell
