I downloaded a random MIDI file of Radiohead's Karma Police and sent it, almost raw, to this robot xylophone which couldn't understand most of the file. It sounds terrible. There's also a boring video version.

Thought I'd jump in to the holiday spirit at the last second: Here is a version of Amazing Grace I did back in 2003 for guitar, 2 musical saws, and xylophone (the toy kind with wheels that you drag around by a string). Recorded into Cubase via the tiny microphone on my old 12" powerbook.

This track switches between three time signatures, and features an intro with a style of singing I guess one could call very vaguely eastern. It's a slow and gentle affair with softly distorted ebowed guitar, piano, and xylophone. It also includes a guitar solo in which a single note is played repeatedly. And lyrics that are pretty silly. I made this song last summer (2006). It has the usual synth and drum machine, as well as the addition of a little guitar. Very fast-paced, yet relaxed. Oh, and, of course, it'll someday (maybe) have lyrics.

I must have had a sad, sad look when she turned to say goodbye, because she tilted her head, raised her hand, touched my face and said: don't worry, we'll be fine. And it was right then when she said it that I realized we were going to be perfectly fine indeed, we were just not going to be together anymore. I went back into my house and wrote this song.
