Hey, Little Sprout!

June 30, 2008 7:31 PM

A song written for my oldest nephew (he's the giggling in the beginning and the talking at the end). His nickname is the monk, not little sprout.

Corduroy reminded me the other day that I've been putting up a lot of covers here. Sorry 'bout that, but we've been busy. This track is from melissa may and I's album Nutate, released today by Circle Into Square Records (available on many finer download sites as well). A couple of other songs that we've posted here appear on the album in different forms as well. Our pal Brent played drums and can be heard whispering something at the beginning if you turn it up enough. Mastered by our buddy Steve. Oh, you can grab a bunch of remixes of songs from the album done by feedle, Victor Scott, sleeper, cars & trains, and the STEALTH over here for free as well. Oh oh, there's also a video for another song.

And yes, this is the first song... on our... new... album.

Lyrics
Hey, little sprout! Don’t you forget where you came from, but don’t let it make you live lying down. A belief in fate belies a belief that you’re guilty for living your life. Hey, morning sun! Don’t you forget to shine down on the asphalt that’s the same no matter where you are and that all of the ants crawling upon it are different every day. A belief in fate belies a belief that you’re guilty for living your life. A belief in fate belies a belief that you’re guilty for living your life. And we’ll dance each day. (It’s OK.) And we’ll dance each day. (It’s alright.) Hey, little sprout! Put your face into the rain and don’t forget to sway when the wind blows. Hey, little sprout! Don’t you say you’re from nowhere and that you’ve got nothing, nothing to lose because nowhere is somewhere and someone needs someone like I need you. Hey, little sprout! Don’t you forget where you came from, but don’t let it make you live lying down. And you’ll dance each day. (It’s OK.) And you’ll dance each day. (It’s alright.) OK? Goodbye, love you. Bye.

Congratulations on the release, and my best wishes! Boy, those covers (album covers) are really great.

And I really liked Victor Scott's version of this song as well. I haven't been able to listen to the others, I'll let you know after I've heard them.

As for the posting many covers, don't worry, as long as we are getting more music from you, it's all good.

Hey, this is a fun, poppy song, man. And I mean poppy as in *this is me happily scooting around the kitchen listening and cooking stuff* poppy. I missed the projects post of your vid, must go check it out!

Makes me think of the Cars meeting the Magnetic Fields. I know it is lazy to compare like that, but it is what came to mind.

You are definitely going to be the cool uncle.

This is terrific. It has a great kid-like bounce to it, without veering anywhere near cloying kids music.

Wow, I somehow missed this getting posted. I love it, especially when it gets to 'and we'll dance each day'. I really like the higher double tracked vocals. Congratulations on the new album release! Do you actually tour at all? I'd love to hear some live stuff, or (more likely, unfortunately) hear a recording of some live stuff posted here.

Thanks, everyone, for the very nice comments. Sorry for the shilling.

Corduroy, we don't tour really. It's weird, every time one comes up and we start to plan (even something small and kinda local) something happens in real life that zaps our money supply and actual will to play out. I just don't think it was meant to be.
