It Gets Better

Wrote this tune early in the month, shortly after seeing the Challenge announcement, and would've posted it much sooner, but other commitments plus a dose of good old fashioned procrastination delayed the recording until this afternoon. The last day of the month, of course! Just in under the gun, then, is my submission for this month's Mefi Music Challenge.

Just Wait

I'm really new at all this, but I thought I'd put something together for the It Gets Better challenge. My first MeFiMusic song.

Prelude to Nightmare Night

A minor-key, rondo-like composition for piano, bass, percussion, and various squelchy electronic bits. Hail the coming of Princess Luna! [more inside]

mmHg — ...and the glory...

I accidentally played a 022000 E minor chord as 033000. I liked the sound, and soon had a horror song for Halloween. :) It's a simple, rolling/grinding, number. Hope you enjoy!

Challenge idea for general consideration

So...we've done VU+N and OK Computer. I was just watching TV, minding me own business, nursing a pint and watching a BBC 4 doc about Chas & Dave, when it struck me..........Tubular Bells. Tub-u-fuckin'-lar-bellzzzzz....oh...yessssss. Obvious really isn't it? A loop with that unmistakeable figure and then, one by one, MeFiMoo-ers contribute the constituent parts.... binders full of women

I wrote this yesterday after reading about the debate. I can't sing or play anything, but maybe someone could find a use for this: [more inside] posted by moonmilk at 2:11 PM PST - 3 comments

mmHg - Forever

Enjoy Millimeters of Mercury breaking out some real guitar and being more rock than electronic, and unautotuned except for a vocoded/autotuned effect in the bridge. [more inside]

Write what you know. Or?

One thing I've noticed overall in the songs I've written is that the ones that have a basis in reality (ie direct personal experience) tend to be the best. [more inside] posted by unSane at 8:29 PM PST - 21 comments

Your Ball and Chain (slight return)

I remixed this song I posted a few days ago taking into account some of the feedback and I like it a whole lot better now! [more inside]

Night Beast

This song is by my band Miracle Beard (previously) and features my baby daughter and my friend Julia on vocals. This track will appear on our upcoming album 'Bonjour, Jupiter.' I was inspired to post this by this post of a pitch-shifted baby crying. [more inside]

Your Ball and Chain

This was a sort-of-answer to a question I asked myself: what would an Adele song for a guy sound like? I guess the answer is, Al Green, kinda. My favorite thing about it is the chord progression, especially the I7-vii7-III-ii7-v7 (Fmaj7-Em7-A7-Gm7-Bbm7) at the beginning. I tried backing vocals but couldn't really make them work. It Gets Better

This is a seed, an idea for a chorus that I'm offering up either for collab or for someone else to take it somewhere and give it a damn good shagging. I got the idea almost immediately upon reading unSane's post and recorded this on the fly in an hour or two today in between cooking dinner. It's as rough as the proverbial badger's arse, but there is something there worth exploring. Perhaps it could get better....

Millimeters of Mercury — Ice Age

An as-of-yet instrumental, franctically-paced (187), electronic post-hardcore-influenced song. Without doubt the most balls-to-the-wall, overblown, overpowered, overdriven, bombastic production I've created. But it's still in that poppishly glossy, tightly-produced package anyone who has heard me knows. Any suggestions welcome as to how vocals should flow in it, and collaboration also welcome.

October Challenge - It Gets Better

October's challenge is simple: produce a piece of music on the theme of "it Gets Better", for possible inclusion in the MeFi "It Gets Better" video, as described in this Meta thread. Use the tags 'mefimusicchallenge' and 'itgetsbetter'. I'm sure accompanying videos will be heartily welcomed and if you have any other questions or suggestions, feel free to post them in this thread and I'll make sure the organizer, jph, gets to see them. posted by unSane at 5:45 PM PST - 9 comments
