Don't Fool Me

Full on vocal harmony twin electric 12-string assault, my attempt to collide the Monkees with the Byrds with a side of the Go-Betweens.

Another 1995-era track, partly autobiographical. I've always liked the cross-picked 12-string riff, the general rush of it, and especially the modulation into the middle 8.

DON'T FOOL ME
words/music © J Brownlow

Baby, baby, put your head upon my shoulder
Close your eyes and go to sleep
Sick and tired of feeling old and acting older
You just had to get away

Packed your bags while he was sleeping
Walked right out the bedroom door
You say that you're leaving and you're never going home
But it don't fool me

Drove all night to get to nowhere by the morning
Watched the dawn turn night to day
Flicked the headlights off and parked up by the motel
You just had to get some sleep

And as you showered I was thinking
Of everything you left behind
You say that it's over and you've nothing left to lose
But it don't fool me

Every reason that you gave me
Begins and ends with nothing changed
You say that you love me more than I could ever know
But it don't fool me

And when I woke up you were nowhere
Just a crumple in the sheet
And you say that you did the right thing for my sanity
But it don't fool me
No, it don't fool me
No, it don't fool me

Your music is very sweet. Classic pop-rock progressions and voicing, friendly guitars and I love your lyrics. Good performance! :)
