If I Can (You Can Too)

A pretty simple dance tune. I borrowed (well, adapted) a melody, I admit - but it was a 4/4 melody crying out to be in 3/4, and I wanted to set it right. This is track 2/5 on the Hellish EP.

Saint Simon

I came up with an arrangement of Saint Simon by the Shins on the wurlitzer. It's in some sort of 3/4, 6/8, 12/8 I'm-not-sure-what waltz/not waltz time signature.

Minor Waltz

A composition for 2 banjos in the classic style, composed by S.S. Stewart in 1882. I decided to give it the carnival dirge treatment.

stupid sexy monsters

Punked up waltz about how to avoid bedbugs. Still a little iffy on how the vocals are mixed. Thoughts? [more inside]

wilshire waltz one

Well, it's been about (over?) 3 years since I last posted. I haven't done a single music-related thing in that time. This one just kind of came out. It's an instrumental waltz about walking in the city.

Call Me Luna!

This has techno stuff arguing back and forth with pianos, a theme that's conflicted about what meter it's in, a cadence that keeps trying to change the key down a whole step, and ponies. Plenty of ponies. But I think this is my last Luna project for a while now!

I did a youtube recording of this lovely tune. Decided to give it a pass through the iPad, since I'm on a roll lately. Folky ballad. [more inside]

Cook, Peary, and Byrd

Here is my entry into the "Educational Song" challenge from March of last year. (THIS IS AS FAST AS I WORK, PEOPLE.) It is a searing exposé / sing-along waltz that reveals the truth about early arctic exploration. My dad plays trumpet, my friend Jessica plays trombone and sings, my wife Sue sings just a little bit, and MeFi's own dubold and Pecinpah sing as well. Lyrics and (yes!) citations are inside. Effects

This is my first cross-country collaboration with my old friend Blue Bar. He wrote the song--it's a melancholy waltz. He also sings on the track, and plays guitar. I fill in on accordion and drums.

Half Empty Waltz

MeFi's own es_de_bah takes over vocal duties on this one -- I didn't feel like I was the right person to sing it, and so I spent some time going through the "Music Collaborator" Mefi Wiki page until I found someone who would be. (It was his excellent song "a perfect preservative" which made me consider him in the first place.) In addition, my dad plays trumpet; I play Magnus chord organ, flute, and interesting percussion. It's a waltz. [more inside]

log

This is an old song, not written for the mefi music challenge water theme, but the lyrics kind of fit, so I decided to upload it. I actually wrote this waltz about having a cold, but it sounds very "oceanic."

You Promised There Would Be Girls [demo]

I wrote and recorded this today - it's basically a stream-of-consciousness account of one of the stranger and more entertaining parties I've attended.

Apparatchik Waltz

This is probably one of the few times you'll get to hear me "sing" on MeFi. This is another song I wrote for the rpmchallenge, singing, programming it, and playing toy piano on it... I think it's also the first song I ever wrote in 3/4 time.
