Little ditty about young love, the joys of suburban Massachusetts in autumn, and the allure of all those wonderful things behind the counter at drugstores. [more inside]

cortex was kind enough to let me borrow the lyrics from his song "The Bottom Falls Out of the Clouds" (which he wrote for the first ever MeFi Music Challenge), and allow me to set them to new folky/acoustic/lo-fi music for this month's challenge. [more inside]

As a follow-up to this post, here is the demo I recorded for the song I posted a long time ago here. As before, the idea is to share something about the evolution of my songs for anyone who might care.

A demo that I later recorded and posted here. I'm posting this as a contribution along the lines of what others have done before me -- providing a window into my songwriting. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if some prefer this version.

This collage, like this one, this one and this older one, has been mostly done through the use of a looping device and a guitar. And some ambient sounds too. Last part designed to propitiate meditation.

A new Grandma Sylvias track. Sort of supposed to be a cross between "10:15 Saturday Night" and Delta blues. Features hesitant guitar playing, a burst of noise at the end, occasional whistling, and the usual tape hiss.

A NSFW song about Mary (full of grace!) recorded in 2001 on a Tascam 4 track with an SP-202 and some ridiculous records and friends. From the same album as last year's Tryptophantastic. [more inside]

Just a bit of a jangly, lo-fi, two-track, three-chord GBV meets Velvet Underground groove I got into, with a lead line over the top of the second half...

Spur-of-the-moment lo-fi live cover of the Radiohead song off Hail to the Thief, to which I added a couple of equally rough overdubs and some reverb. The guitar is out of tune and poorly played, but the vocal melody tweaks are kind of fun. [more inside]

More 4-track clearance. This time, it's a happy, bouncy ditty from 1993: two guitars, some whistling and happily mumbled lyrics. Recorded probably with Fleetwood Mac's Tusk on the brain, with all knobs turned up to eleven. [more inside]

More from my 4-track dump onto the PC. Lyrics written very loosely and improvised on the spot; it is about a 6-year old falling in love with the bearded lady midget at the fair, and running away. The song has an anxious, circus-gone-wrong aura to it. It was recorded on 1/26/94 in my bedroom, in the middle of the night so that my roommates wouldn't hear it.

It's a song about playing make believe games, and pretending that everything's going to be alright, when really it's all gone to shit. It's also somewhat of a sea shanty.
