Waltz #2 (XO)

Another version of Elliott Smith's Waltz#2 for Cortex. This is only a rough mix unfortunately so tis a little rough around the edges with plenty of mistakes and whatnot, but a deadline's a deadline!!

"Borderline/Norwegian Wood"

I'm singing and playing the Reggie Lucas-written hit off Madonna's first album, but I just threw in George Harrison's wistfully lilting lick on the Beatles' "Revolver" classic for fun.

I Hate You, I Love Volcanoes

I usually only sing on tracks when it's necessary to fulfill the requirements of a compilation, as was the case with this medley from Flogging a Dead Cow, the Dead Milkmen tribute album. Another "quality" Hence The Name product.

New York Mining Disaster 1941

Acoustic cover, me and Chris Otto sharing vocals. Living room demo on Tascam 4-track tape deck, recorded around 8 years ago or so. A song I've always loved to sing. Sorry the last couple of seconds are clipped off; I'm not sure why.

Mrs. Green

Semi-acoustic cover of "Mrs. Green" by the power pop band the Posies. This was done by a 3 piece band (two guitars, one bass) group I was in a while back. (We never could find a drummer, so...) I'm singing lead and also a back up part near the end. The other band members are Chris Otto and Terri Doherty. Chris did lead guitar, backing vocals, and some keys. Terri played bass. I think I did some random percussion and guitar strumming as well. (Please delete when/if covers are determined to be a problem here.)

Ana Ng (acoustic)

This is an acoustic cover of the wonderful TMBG song Ana Ng, done on a four track recorder many years ago. Though I did once see "I don't want the world, I just want your half" painted on a bridge (it was really surprising and cool to discover), we substituted "Homies '88" in its place because we had recently seen that on a bridge and thought it a bit absurd that someone took the time and effort to paint such a doofy message.

Flaming Moe's

Written and performed by my old band - Hooray For Everything. This was included in a Simpsons tribute album that sold a boatload of copies. We recorded this in 1997, I think. We began with the lyrics from the song used in the original "Flaming Moe" episode (http://www.snpp.com/episodes/8F08.html) and then made the song our own... When the weight of the world has got you down and you want to end your life. Bills to pay, a dead-end job, and problems with the wife. But don't throw in the tow'l, 'cuz there's a place right down the block... Where you can drink your misery away... At Flaming Moe's.... (Let's all go to Flaming Moe's...) When liquor in a mug (Let's all go to Flaming Moe's...) can warm you like a hug. (Flaming Moe's...) And happiness is just a Flaming Moe away... Happiness is just a Flaming Moe away...

Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls (Live Mix)

Nice to interpret Godspeed You Black Emperor! electronically - exciting! Thought it'd be fun to close my first gig with a climactic cover version, so I prepared this. Though I don't think anyone spotted it was a cover, it went down a treat. By Lestrade.

Welcome to the Jungle (acoustic)

This is an acoustic cover of the very excellent They Might Be Giants song Welcome to the Jungle. As a gag, the beginning instrumental bit copies the Guns N' Roses song Welcome to the Jungle. Though my old "band" did this, just about every instrument on this track (including the backup vocals) was done by one bandmember.

How To Fight Loneliness

Cover of a gorgeous Wilco song. This is an extremely spartan interpretation. You may need to turn your volume up.

Lay Down Sally

Sung by Mavis Farr, another track off of the "How Long Have You Been In Love?" album. See here for the details I posted in the previous thread/track if you happened to miss it.

You Spin Me Round

A remake of the same song by Dead or Alive, only much better! Disclaimer: I was the producer of the album this is off of, not a performer. (MI)
