It Gets Better
A long time and a bit ago, there was an It Gets Better challenge, and the late lamented Major Dundee posted this in response, along with instruction to ride it hard and put it away wet. So that's what I did. [more inside]
High and Dry
A cover of Radiohead's H&D on resonator guitar in open G, for the minor/major challenge. I originally intended this to be a shitkicking country stomper but it turned into something quite different. [more inside]
Live and Learn
Final version of the song I posted a few days ago. Also my New Year's challenge entry. The usual 70s-tinged nonsense. [more inside]
Tubular Carol of the Jingle Bells
Does just what it says on the box, and then some.
Tubular Balls
A backing track for the November 2012 Challenge, namely the iconic piano riff from Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells Pt. 1. [more inside]
Airport
It was 1978. I was 13. And I bought my first album, The Motors, because I loved this song more than life itself. [more inside]
On Valentine's Day
On February 11th, 1963, the poet Sylvia Plath committed suicide. This is the song the elderly painter, Mr Thomas, who lived in the flat below hers, did not write about the event. An odd little ballad in 7/8. [more inside]
Girl on a Swing (Ballad of a Cavalryman)
This is a super-rough demo of a song I wrote yesterday for the 'Has Been for Years' song fight. It's a gothic little waltz using a resonator guitar, told from the point of view of a trooper in the 7th cavalry who was killed at Little Big Horn while waiting to be relieved by Reno's troops. Recorded before I put my pants on, for the challenge. Video proof is here.

The Logical Song (feat. Ayn Rand)
Supertramp's classic, covered for the 'uncool' challenge. Featuring resonator guitar in Open G, pump organ, polka accordion and Ayn Rand. [more inside]
A Town with no Pity
Epic 60s janglepop meets Northern Soul, final version of the tune I've been evolving here and on The Music Incubator. All based on a little piano riff, and therefore my August challenge entry too. [more inside]
Angels
My love/hate song is a cover of Delbert McClinton's country/gospel classic (actually written by Frankie Miller & Jerry Lynn Williams) accompanied by the pump organ. [more inside]
I Go Blind
I got to really hate this mofo over the last couple of weeks. So I had no choice but to record it. [more inside]
From Olga
Arnaud wasn't just about the techno noise. He was an enormous fan of Laurie Andersen's Oh, Superman and had assembled a vocoder himself by taking apart the family's old tube TV. His mother Olga, who was not an educated woman, could not write without speaking aloud, and so one day when he heard her writing a letter, he snuck a microphone under the rickety table, fed it to his home-made recorder, and began to play along... Shchedryk
A quick surf-punk blast thru the Ukrainian folk song which was neutered into Carol of the Bells. For the challenge, obviously! [more inside]
Simple Town
A piece of pop fluff for the a capella challenge. [more inside]
Balkan Red Alert Part II
Just sneaking this one under the wire for the Hallowe'en challenge. A thrown-together palate cleanser from the recent power pop -- a piece of Eastern European-flavored surf about the scariest thing I can think of. I actually gave myself the shivers when I was putting together the ending so it's probably worth sticking around for that. [more inside]
Summer's Calling (remix)
I wasn't at all happy with the first version of this challenge track that I posted. So I redid it, and now it makes me feel all sunshiney inside. [more inside]
This is the Summer
The first of two songs for this month's Summersong challenge -- a singalong powerpop anthem about incest, sunburn, and lost love on an English council estate. [more inside]
Dang Me
Woke up this morning with a sore throat and my voice about an octave lower than usual so I figured it was time to record a cover of Roger Miller's despicable novelty hit that was #1 on the country charts the day I was born. Despicable because it's a song written from the perspective of a complete cunt. So I brought some self loathing to the table, along with the sore throat and my complete inability to play blues guitar.
