Ding Dong
Well, we did a holiday song. I have an alter ego as Fluffy the rabbit. (He's a bit prone to conspiracies and is kinda gruff but really has a heart o' gold). He joins Blue the Monster here on a hopefully-pretty-inclusive* holiday number we think will stick to your brainwaves quite nicely. There's a [youtube] video too, if you want the full dancing-potato and revolving-bagpipes immersive experience. Merry Happy everybody.
*it is a little anti-bagpipes.
Jaylen (Please Don't Bean My Man)
A song about brought-back-from-the-dead Blaseball pitcher Jaylen Hotdogfingers whose beanballs now convey a deadly and contagious ailment to anyone she hits. Lyrics by @phasmantistes, and apologies once again to Dolly Parton. [more inside]
Stamps
Short, sweet, sappy love song. [more inside]
An Spealadoir
I'm baaaaaack! After quite a hiatus, during which much has happened, but myself and a friend were in the recording studio to make an album. Thought you fine folks would like a sample. This is a traditional song in the Irish language called "An Spealadoir", or the Hay cutter. My friend and I joke that of all the big songs in the Irish tradition about shipwrecks, wars, love lost and emigration, she managed to pick a song about cutting grass. Enjoy!
Where I'm From
Strident acoustic guitar rhythm and some vocal harmonies. [more inside]

Never Took a Dollar from a Dead Man
This is S&H, from a show we did just the other night here in Tokyo. I'm so digging working with percussionist Habu Hiroshi, he's really bringing the groove. Video here.
Lines
I wrote the music for this last summer, and I eventually intend to re-record it with lyrics once I finish them but for now I'm putting it up here as an instrumental and looking for feedback from the MeFi community.

Your Ball and Chain
This was a sort-of-answer to a question I asked myself: what would an Adele song for a guy sound like?
I guess the answer is, Al Green, kinda.
My favorite thing about it is the chord progression, especially the I7-vii7-III-ii7-v7 (Fmaj7-Em7-A7-Gm7-Bbm7) at the beginning.
I tried backing vocals but couldn't really make them work. [more inside]
Annie Took the Money
Last of the tunes recorded earlier this month in a little house in the mountains. Vocal and stick dulcimer. A very prolific songbird who was just outside can be heard throughout this performance. Video here.
Charlene
This may not be the first song to have an Ask MetaFilter question embedded in it, but its the first one I've written.

Just released. In time for St Patrick's Day - a song about the Chicago South Side Irish.

Real To Reels -Tribute to John Lennon
I wrote this on December 8th, 1980 right after I heard about John Lennon's murder. I was in college, in Albuquerque N.M., and was so upset I had to take a cold shower to calm down. I wrote it in the shower, and wrote it down when I dried off. We've played it in various bands ever since, and this version was recorded in Chicago in 1995. [more inside]
Goodbye

Gone Gone Gone
For the April "two chords" Challenge. The two 3-note chords even share a note in common, so we're talking a total of five notes serving as harmonic accompaniment for this song. Played on the strumstick. There's a hoop drum, too, of indeterminate pitch. I posted a lo-fi, live version of this song to YouTube as well, direct from my 6-mat tatami room at home. You can see it here.
Short Hills CRITIQUE VERSION
Please listen to, think about, and heavily critique this song! I'm working on mixing it and finishing up the recording, and would hugely appreciate any constructive criticism! Thx!

Mnemosyne (It's autumn in the country I remember...)
A tango-influenced setting of a hundred year-old poem by Trumbull Stickney, "Mnemosyne" is the title track of our new CD, recorded by Ljova and the Kontraband (music by Ljova, sung by Inna).
Mnemosyne is the Greek goddess of memory, and this is a song of nostalgy and of memories that turn color like autumn leaves yearning for rebirth with a vibrant song in the spring....
We've long been looking forward to sharing this song with you all.
