(pop-out)
Be A Shark!
Another one from my band, Boeufcake. [more inside]
You and San Francisco (Lighters Out Mix)
The (hopefully) final mix of Y&SF with all the problems fixed and Major Dundee's epic solo finally loud and proud before the last chorus. [more inside]
Don't Fool Me (2010 version)
Today's espresso-driven shot of melodrama power-pop. Originally written around 1995, I think I finally nailed how it was supposed to sound. [more inside]
Whatever You Give (I'll Take from You)
I always know the tricks you play, but I still get taken. Another poppy (and slightly ominous) uke tune. Hope you like it! [more inside]
Nothing Ever Changes
From a new thing I'm (slowly) working on. It's just guitar, piano and vocals at this point, but there's a cello part and some additional vocals to come. This is a rough working cut with scratch vocals, but I like how it's shaping up already. Hope you like it. [more inside]
Boss Man Song
A song from the POV of the Boss Man. [more inside]
The Undiscovered Country Song
A quiet song about looking around for all the people you've misplaced over the years.
Guitar, piano, cello, recorded live using a field recorder. Vocals overdubbed later at home.
Unreleased from a new Tangemeenie side-project my wife Lori will eventually also contribute vocals to, called "The Wishing Well Divers." [more inside]
In A Room
Cover I did hastily yesterday afternoon of The House of Love's beautiful song "In A Room". [more inside]
That Letter
To celebrate my 7th MetaFilter Birthday (yay!) here is another track from the band I was in in 1991. This is a cover of a Young Fresh Fellows song. It's a little rough. There's another thing we cover during the intro part before I start singing -- see if you recognize it.
Xmas Won't Be Xmas
It's getting to be time to put together the Christmas mix tapes! This was recorded by a band I was in in 1991. Our new guitar player, Michael Cox, brought us the song so he sings lead. I'm one of the girl background singers (heard best toward the end) and might be playing a tiny bit of guitar (I don't remember for sure), and I know I played some jingle bells near the end of the track (What Christmas song doesn't have bells?). It's a goofy singalong sort of holiday tune. I like it a lot. I wish I had a better quality copy, though.
We recorded this song along with another batch of demos, in time to get airplay on KNDD's local music Christmas show that year... then promptly broke up before even completing all the tracks as a band, though I went in to the studio later to finish. C'est la vie.
Julia
Julia / you've got a lovely uvula / I wanna take you to Florida / so please say yes
We'll start a family / play lots of D&D / and watch the Goonies / on VHS
in the Shadow Cast (demo)
Can't have a day with only one post to MuFi! This is from the 48 Hour Project; I spent two days in January holed up writing and recording an EPs-worth of songs that would later become the foundation for my current band. It was cold and tiring and fun...
When it Hits My Blood
Cover of a John Vanderslice song about Requiem for a Dream.
Summer's Ending
Now that the summer's ending, there's a cold wind blowing in / So we've got to build some shelter, before it rains again
the Hours -- by the Notes and Scratches
A cluttered and messy rock song from our record Uh-Oh. I play guitar and sing in this band (and play the singing saw on this track!).
The Road
Ooh, bop bop, ba-ooh, bop bop. All I know is the road and I love you.
The Spy Part 1 (Cover's Blown)
Acoustic demo about what I did during the Cold War.
The Spy Part 2 (Thirty Scarves)
Demo of a song about being far away from the spy you love. With acoustic guitar and tuba.
