MA:46 - Tunnel Dwellers Anthem
I'm working on a collection of songs of various genres for a concept album about life in a ruined West Coast city sometime in the future. This song is a demo track of a melodic industrial / rock tune about an oppressed group lashing out.
Waiting For You
This is the first song of at least 6 that I will release on my first, self-released EP in the near future. I'm currently figuring out how to arrange a live set with my music as everything was played and/or arranged by myself.
I now release my music under the moniker mixedtape. The Freudian Slipper was my old name :)
Beaver
My second band, Brevator, improvised this for a sound check while recording. We liked it so much we ended up keeping it.
Things Fall Apart
Singing and guitar and clapping and beerbottle flute and self-reflection. I posted this to the old music.metafilter.com back in 2003.
Swimming Lessons
My band, Struction, recorded this in the Spring.
Amateur
This is the first song I ever wrote. I was fifteen. I've come a long way, baby.
the long lost light
A slow and sad song I wrote and recorded after a breakup/separation a few years ago. Features a falsetto chorus and acoustic guitar, including an e-bow undercurrent.
When it Hits My Blood
Cover of a John Vanderslice song about Requiem for a Dream.
How To Fight Loneliness
Cover of a gorgeous Wilco song. This is an extremely spartan interpretation. You may need to turn your volume up.
Who Will Venture?
it was a dark and stormy night...
Arboretum (Anthem of my 19th Year)
Washboard beat, acoustic guitar, a little piano, some singin'. Listen for my dog bark in the background.
Juju Sparkle
sparkling and uncategorizable, like my friend madamjujujive.
Women Drinking Whiskey
Cowgirl campfire song, lead-in to a solo CD I did in February. Thanks to Eideteker for the file conversion.
Mark Foo's Last Ride
Mark Foo rewrote the rules of big-wave surfing and turned it into a high-stakes, high-profile thrill show. So when the biggest, baddest new surf break -- Mavericks -- started to churn out 40-foot waves in December 1994, it was inevitable that he'd be there. This tune celebrates his last ride.
Previous tunes here and here.
already lovers
A quiet, pretty song about online dating. Features guitars, vocals, and pseudo-orchestral touches.
Balkan Red Alert, Part I
Balkan-tinged surf-rock ode to Gavril Princip from Cesare Gorgeous & The Strange Attractors. That's me (Cesare) on, um, everything. Previously in the same ilk: A Theory of Everything. More to come.
Blue Shuffle
toe tappin' laid back boogie blues
Summer's Ending
Now that the summer's ending, there's a cold wind blowing in / So we've got to build some shelter, before it rains again
Story Yet Untold
Straightforward riff rock with maybe a hint of a memory of Jethro Tull.
If you can sing this better - and believe me, you can - drop me a note.
Feeling Down
I'm not angry . . . I'm just feeling down
Slathered
mudpuppie, slathered in milk duds.
Engine Soundtrack
An early (circa 1999) experiment with fuzzed out guitars and a super-compressed mix, pushing ambient towards industrial. Psycho-shoegazer?
take this pain
It's a slow starter, and once it gets going it's incredibly repetetive. But, uh, I like it that way. Features moi on vocals (through a simulated guitar amp) and all instruments.
SeaSong
Cultural Amnesia is a group that I was in during the early 80s and a quarter of a century later we are still, occasionally, doing it. SeaSong is a track we recorded in 2004. We did record some songs earlier this year, but they're not fully buffed up for release yet. There will be a vinyl record of our old stuff released later this year.
The Road
Ooh, bop bop, ba-ooh, bop bop. All I know is the road and I love you.
We Have the Technology
My band recorded this for a Song Fight. It's quirky casio acuostic rock, with just a hint of out of tune accordion, and percussion supplied by a djembe. That's me singing.
No Reason (broken Casio mix)
Post-band-breakup collaboration rock + VST experiment.
birds flights
this is a track from my old band noumena... instrumental and moody. give it a listen and if you like you can download a lot more (for free) here: ohler homepage. Note: a lot of people say that they like to make out to this song.
I Will Disappear
Beatles inspired guitar pop from a band I used to be in.
Dress You Up
"I don't think Madonna is going to care if quonsar wants to dress you up in his love, all over, all over..." - mathowie
criminal
A recent recording of a slow and maybe a little creepy song I wrote a couple of years ago. I'm responsible for all vocals and instruments minus the bass, which was recorded by my Scottish buddy Riadsala.
The Spy Part 1 (Cover's Blown)
Acoustic demo about what I did during the Cold War.
The Spy Part 2 (Thirty Scarves)
Demo of a song about being far away from the spy you love. With acoustic guitar and tuba.
A Theory of Everything
Twangsome surf-rock from The Strange Attractors, recorded when I should have been writing screenplays. That's me kicking the reverb tank at the beginning.
Trees + Herbs Just Got Easier
cloeburner and I used to be in an improv noise rock band called cloeburner. When I listen to this song, I think of a majestic bald eagle, sinking slowly into a pool of lava and contemplating its own mortality. I hope you will, too.
Funk My Wagnalls
da funk is all.
Imaginary Dance
Guitar-heavy, folk-inflected rock instrumental.
Surface Waters
Drifting across the waves. Some live experimental guitar ambience.
