Make Right the Time [Danny Schmidt cover]

A different draft of the song rangefinder 1.4 introduced me to, having been given her basic tracks and having added my noodling. This is the one with the piano. And the kitchen sink. [more inside]

Computer World [Kraftwerk cover]

Featuring the voice of greenish as the Computer. I thought it would be fun to do it slower, using mostly analog instruments and a computer to record it, in juxtaposition to how Kraftwerk originally recorded it in 1981 (using computer instruments and I'm guessing analog tape). Also I was feverish with Lyme Disease while I recorded it. Song #11 in Unu Kanto Po Semajno.

Keep Your Hands to Yourself (Georgia Satellites cover, Interpolated with "The Theme to The Great White North" and Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Free No. 10")

...in Sleng Teng Riddim style, no less. Song #5 in my Unu Kanto Po Semajno series. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SILLY. [more inside]

Those Aren't Poodles [Greg Nog cover]

I had the day off. I heard the previous song. I started singing it my head like this. I had to share. I am still in my jammas. I am a recalcitrant dog misidentifier, but I'm better known for considering all animals and some human babies gender-neutral.

Theme from "Flood"

Why is the world about to fall in love all over again? Why will we be marching hand in hand? Why are the ocean levels still rising up? It's a brand new record for 2015: MetaFilter's cover of They Might Be Giants' classic album, Flood!

Safe and Sound [Capital Cities cover]

Jessamyn asked me to cover this song a long time ago, and I set about it at a snails pace. It's finally done! (Sorry it took so long, darlin.) It started out in my mind as, "What if New Order or the Cure covered it?", and it turned out sounding like me covering it. I worked more over the past month to make sure it sounded the way I wanted it to, and I learned a lot about Garageband along the way. I'm kinda proud of it. And I'm glad it's over. [more inside]

Keep Your Hands to Yourself (Sketch 1a) (Georgia Satellites cover)

This — and not my post from a year ago — was actually the first sketch of my cover of "Keep Your Hands To Yourself". Be warned, this is not pretty, more like a scribble on a wet napkin than a drawing. It's first-take everything, rushed, and I think it was my first stab at using GarageBand. (Everything before that had been made with Audacity or 4-track.) [more inside]

Keep Your Hands to Yourself (Sketch 1) (Georgia Satellites cover)

I've been kicking around the idea doing a cover of this song for years now. Finally, I'm getting around to laying down sketches. [more inside]

Na Na, Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) [Steam cover]

If, at a meetup, bondcliff hadn't pointed out this month's music challenge to me, I might have covered this song eventually anyway.
But since it's this month's challenge, and since bondcliff and I were born on the same day/month/year (same city and same first and middle name, too), I decided, hey, why not do a nutty, rushed job on it instead so that it actually means something. [more inside]

Everywhere With Helicopter (feat. jessamyn; Guided By Voices cover)

So, what was it, November when the MeFi Challenge was unofficially "requests for covers from other MeFites"? But this goes even further back... sometime last summer, Jessamyn said she wanted to do a cover--with me!--of Guided By Voices' "Everywhere With Helicopter." "OK," I said, "but you have to sing and make jangly noises with things around your apartment." [more inside]
