humdrum experimental vocals
still trying to learn how to sing. maybe someday. [more inside]
Vocal guide for Passion Fall
been trying to record some vocals lately which of course meant trying to figure out what the melody and lyrics would even be so I did an improv vocal session and then repeated the best of it 3 or 4 times and did a rough mix. [more inside]
I got a new microphone to replace my old defunct one. It's nothing special but I had to test it out right away. What I learned is I'm going to want a pop-filter probably. [more inside]
I wrote and recorded this one today. It's not what I expected it to be but it's track number 12 and so I'll stop here and try to write some lyrics and record some vocals next week and hopefully make an album.
Spring and Sobriety
This is probably the third iteration of this song. No vocals yet. I'm not sure I like it, but I'm trying to hone it nonetheless.
I'm working on this album concept where the earth's orbit has changed bringing cataclysmic changes to the the environment and season, ultimately bring about the extinction of mankind. This is sort of a nod to climate change but with a more dramatic, science-fiction narrative to emphasize and accelerate the outcome... [more inside]
I'm not sure what kind of album I'm trying to make. My emotions seem to be at conflict. [more inside]
Our Final Season
Another song I recorded lately. Instrumental for now but I think I can add some gothic vibe vocals to this one.
There with you...and some things never change...
the latest experiment in creativity...
Another night and I can pick up where I left off today Another drink and I will sleep right, and the dreams will stay away I thought about what I should do now but I'd rather stay in and keep out from the cold ...you know I'd rather be alone murmurs...
instrumental guitar rock. A bit of messy improv guitar on the quiet parts...
All rock instrumental...no vocals... [more inside]
Christmas party for one
Recorded December 24th, 2016 [more inside]
Plain Dislike You
I felt like destroying something so I destroyed this tune.
I song I wrote in up-state new-york. Instrumental guitar as is often the case...
Lift Off Delay
Continue to vent my frustrations of daily life through hard rocking guitar for now... [more inside]
Not my usual Genre but this fit my mood tonight. Just heavy guitar rock instrumental at heart...
Just wrote this tonight...just your average guitar melodrama...
savory for me
Just an experiment of guitar electronic fusion I've been playing with. I'm planning on doing an album-full of these types of songs soon.
Spent the last year learning to program and had no time for music. Finally got a job and a new-ish life so I thought it's time to get back to some things I enjoy. This one is different from my normal thing though I suppose I'v'e always had an attraction to analog merging with electronic. Maybe thanks to new order/joy division??? Though this doesn't sound anything like those.
def dev puts @development end
Finished my online web dev course. It was time to relax and take a break from writing code...
Learning web dev and reflecting on lifetimes lived long ago
I took a four week vacation, partly with the intention of recording some vocals for my many instrumental tracks. However I spent the whole holiday learning web development and getting drunk in the evenings and recalling fonder memories of times past... I only managed to record vocals one day for about 4 hours and it was almost a total loss. I only managed to get a single line down really. I wrote more lyrics but the takes for those were unusable. Well, here it is for better or worse with the single line repeating over and over on a loop... [more inside]
2 days left
I haven't written a song in a while (or it feels too long to me at least). This is just some more guitar rock with a hint of electronic programming. It fits the mood I'm in mostly. Two days lefts to go until I start my three week holiday. I've been working full-time without a vacation for about 2 1/2 years. I need a break...
an old improv song I did... Well the base was formulated but the guitar was improv. and the programmed drums were an after thought. Luckily I have the foresight to record everything in time.
This is a guitar-only outtake from another song I did. I was going to use it as a outro on that song but the original clocked in a 9 minute time already so it got discarded. But still, I like the feeling of it...especially as it's guitar with no other instruments ;)
I was really happy with this one when I first recorded it about 19 months ago. Listening to it now, I realise it was given way too much compression in the mastering phase. unfortunately I have lots the master project now with a faulty hard drive so it it what it is... [more inside]
Lawn Mower Times
Another combination of Guitar vs. Keyboards. Guitar gets the first move this time.
Battery Charger Error
recorded about 7 months back, I thought It'd be nice if Guitar and Keys could share some space and cohabitate. I sort of liked the combination of both here.
just a guitar riff I've been working on. Not sure where to take it exactly.
leisure for real
this is a bit of a lofi track from 2012. I looped a bass line and then jammed out to it. Then I thought, wow, if any bassist hears this, he's going so think, what a boring pass part! So for those bassist out there, I threw in a bit of a bass solo as an outro.
it would take an hour...
Feeling a bit down tonight so I went looking through my projects and tried to fix up old throw away songs. This is one that's not too bad. An idea I hadn't quite fleshed out instrumentally. But why not throw on some improve vocals to make it feel more whole?
I think this may be one of my favorite things I've done guitar-wise. I started out with a very basic chord progression and just played out as many variations of that as I could think of and then took my favorites and combined them into a simple quiet/loud dynamic. [more inside]
So...I didn't think I'd have time to work on a new song but the last 24 hours have freed up so... [more inside]
I was going to "throw this one away but instead I spent like 8 hours on trying to make it better and still didn't really get where I was going. It was one of those nights when I just couldn't get inspired or the magic wasn't happening. But struggling as I was, I still felt it was kind of fun and thought I'd go ahead and share. [more inside]
Another hit!...or not. I moved to the west some time ago and decided to celebrate by writing a song. [more inside]
gr1 vs. 2
kind of unhappy with this one. A bit Grunge and couldn't work in the finesse I wanted to.
a complicated render
I'm trying to come up with vocals for this one and really struggling tonight. I had an idea, which was to just use pitch correction. I actually kind of liked it. At the risk of sounding like kanye west, i think it helped me get the melodies from my head onto the track without me immediately deleting it. I think maybe I'll use it as a guide track to get a usable take.
Night at the beach in the dark with more vocals
I let a few people hear this before (both here and elsewhere) and they all wanted a mix with higher vocals (despite the fact that I've assured everyone the vocals were total rubbish). So I've re-mixed it and re-mastered and now you might be able to hear my voice. If you still can't understand me, I've included the very depressing lyrics below. [more inside]
where's the exit?
Just another instrumental rock song. A few more electronic elements added in this time but overall, still very much guitar based.
is it the beach at night
Another attempt at songwriting. Unfortunately the vocals were so bad I almost deleted them. Instead I just backgrounded them.
I went to a lot of Punk shows and listened to a lot of that type of music in my youth. I think I paid like $7 or $8 to see Greenday before they exploded on MTV. My friend's band opened for them. Likewise, NoFX, Pennywise, Bad Religion, and many others were among the bands I saw live as a teenager. I haven't really listened to a lot of those bands for a number of years but sometimes I run across a random track in my music library and it brings back all those memories. [more inside]
I have been making too many one part songs lately so I had wanted to do something with a few different parts, you know, like a verse, a chorus, and a bridge and maybe if I'm lucky, a super-chorus... [more inside]
sound out collaboration
My brother who lives in northwest Florida took the time, energy and money to come out and visit me in New Zealand. He's the only member of my family who's ever taken the effort to come out an visit me in the 8 years since I moved here but unfortunately due to just bad timing and unforeseen circumstances, I couldn't give him the welcome he deserved. [more inside]
The long queue
I used to have to commute through rush-hour traffic. You spend a lot of time thinking or zoning out when your car is not moving very fast.
The last song of the project formally known as Old Ship Arcadia.... [more inside]
Old ship church
Another one from the afore mentioned project from a few years ago. Not quite up to my current standards but I like the energy in this one anyway.
Another track from the same project as the previous one I posted.
This is from a project I did about 2 years ago I think. I don't think it's ever seen the light of day till now. It's a bit low quality in it's mastering probably. I wanted to do an 8" with this and 3 other songs but never got around to it. [more inside]
where it starts
This is one I did back in 2012. I wanted to do something more electronic but as that's not my forte, it ended up being pretty minimalist. I ended up overlaying a subtle guitar track in the end anyway...
device or vice
This is obviously kind of an experiment...or in other words, it's a bit of a mess. [more inside]
