Millimeters of Mercury — Contemplation
mmHg says chill.
Whiter Shade of Pale (cover)
Lofi acoustic waltz version: piano, drums, harmonica, solo vox. The song adapts surprisingly to 3/4 time. [more inside]
Higher!!!
See, I think about weird stuff. Like, what would happen if you combined Creed and (a really sloppy, tuneless version of) The Buzzcocks? Heh, well, you'd get the Creedcocks, wouldn't you? And you know, I think they might sound a little something like this... [more inside]
Wicked Little Town (cover)
One of my favorite tunes from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, given the super lofi iPhone Fourtrack treatment. Guitar, melodica, piano, drums. [more inside]
The Sound Remains the Flame
Just playing around with an open C6 tuning, which always makes me think of Led Zeppelin.
Them's The Pits
Steam Stove
This is a song from the batch I recorded when I recorded Cold Dip and It Could Always Be Early. It has an absolutely ludicrous number of tracks for a song that has nothing but guitars and harmony, and I feel the need to just release it and see how others react to it. [more inside]
rock and roll
one. two.
Silver Lining
A low fi version of the Stiff Little Fingers song that somehow feels appropriate for this New Year. [more inside]
Piano
Hard to believe, but I've been here 3 years and 3 days. So, I just got a bunch of my earliest recordings from my dad's computer so I thought I'd post this one from when I was 17 to mark the occasion. Creatively titled "Piano" because of the extended use various E keys on my mom's piano. Definitely wear headphones, secret bonus track at the end. [more inside]
Pink Saturday
The horns in this bouncy lo-fi surf-garage number? Synthesized. But the off-key backup vocals? They're real.
the two of us
I had a few hours to myself this morning and wrote this song. [more inside]
Your Little One Way Street
Once again it's the Tomato Can Sanza (run through my trusty el-cheapo pitch shifter) in action, in another tune from my set at the 2010 Sengawa Jazz/Art Festival in Tokyo. Video at YouTube. [more inside]
Follow Alexandria
A song from our band Thous & Thees [more inside]
Mutations
My band MYELIN SHEATHS has a LP coming out, and this is the first song on the record! ROCK! [more inside]
Bike Ride
This is a new song from our band Thous and Thees. [more inside]
Runaway Train (Soul Asylum cover)
The break-neck lo-fi fest continues with this cover of a song I just loved to death back in high school. [more inside]
Mask of Anarchy
With respect to Shelley. I wrote this song many years ago and recorded it on garage band tonight. It has meant a few things.
Tumbalalaika
Tumbalalaika, a traditional Russian Jewish love song. Generally sung in Yiddish, presented here in English. [more inside]
Napoleonic blues - second song posted
A song I wrote the lyrics for and worked up the melody and progression with the band. Me on ukulele, Jamie singing and on glockenspiel, Justin on guitar, Ella on cello, Tina hitting a a tin. This was recorded before Christmas, again not the most beautiful of recording quality but it gives you a sense of the band's fuller sound with the cello.
Any feedback or critique appreciated as always.

María tero lero lé
One for the 'traditional' challenge. [more inside]
shallow song/airport fiction
First song posted from our band. Two ukes and a guitar. Feedback appreciated. [more inside]
in an aisle seat
Greasy rock song about falling asleep in passenger seats.
I could use some help with this.
Ok, this is my first attempt at recording with real drums. While I'm happy to finally post something featuring my insanely talented little brother, Mike, I'm sorry to say that the drum recording I started out with was awful and I'm not sure I've made it any better. If anyone has some insight as to what can be fixed and how, or some tips on cheap/lo-fi/hopelessly inept home drum recording, I'd love to hear them. [more inside]
Halloween 97/98
Little ditty about young love, the joys of suburban Massachusetts in autumn, and the allure of all those wonderful things behind the counter at drugstores. [more inside]
Bride of the Creature From the Deep
The Bottom Falls Out of the Clouds (demoriffic version)
cortex was kind enough to let me borrow the lyrics from his song "The Bottom Falls Out of the Clouds" (which he wrote for the first ever MeFi Music Challenge), and allow me to set them to new folky/acoustic/lo-fi music for this month's challenge. [more inside]
Press a button
Another slow one.
Slowdown
It does not always have to be fast.
This is a dog
Barking, sirens, and speeding cars.
One Two One Two
Circuitbent sounds with more rhythm and structure than your usual bent glitch drone. [more inside]
Scratchin
Turntable toy added to circuit bent toys. [more inside]
the vase (demo)
As a follow-up to this post, here is the demo I recorded for the song I posted a long time ago here. As before, the idea is to share something about the evolution of my songs for anyone who might care.
undulate underling (demo)
A demo that I later recorded and posted here. I'm posting this as a contribution along the lines of what others have done before me -- providing a window into my songwriting. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if some prefer this version.
Sunday Morning
A Sunday morning here.
1978
Screw the new stuff. I'm loading up my iPod with punk rock. [more inside]
SCNMNR
mandala
This collage, like this one, this one and this older one, has been mostly done through the use of a looping device and a guitar. And some ambient sounds too. Last part designed to propitiate meditation.
Estranha Forma de Vida
An old Portuguese song.
Kimo
Am7 + Gm7. My submission to the two chord challenge.
Window
A new Grandma Sylvias track. Sort of supposed to be a cross between "10:15 Saturday Night" and Delta blues. Features hesitant guitar playing, a burst of noise at the end, occasional whistling, and the usual tape hiss.
El aparato
if the beating of our hearts outpace the ticking of the clock we'll be okay
this is the second song i've written in 10 years, and the first good one.
Você faz mal em se afligir
A demo.
Mary Mary
A NSFW song about Mary (full of grace!) recorded in 2001 on a Tascam 4 track with an SP-202 and some ridiculous records and friends. From the same album as last year's Tryptophantastic. [more inside]
Antimony
Just a bit of a jangly, lo-fi, two-track, three-chord GBV meets Velvet Underground groove I got into, with a lead line over the top of the second half...
Sad, Sad Song
Our Age (Constantines cover)
Its been too long since I've last posted here. I've been a big fan of the Constantines since the time the Arcade Fire were opening for them. This is a cover of a song off of their new album. [more inside]
My Little Corner of the World
As requested by chococat, and featuring the great Karlos The Jackal on marimba and toy piano. [more inside]
i will (radiohead cover)
Spur-of-the-moment lo-fi live cover of the Radiohead song off Hail to the Thief, to which I added a couple of equally rough overdubs and some reverb. The guitar is out of tune and poorly played, but the vocal melody tweaks are kind of fun. [more inside]
