While the Gittin' is Good

Surfy-punky song inspired by a friend's recent decision to quit his job and travel for a while. Recorded in GarageBand, drums provided by a drummer friend who tapped them out on his keyboard for me because none of the drum loops sounded right. My first complete project in GarageBand.

floating on a river

A song about tubing, written (and sung) by a good friend of mine. It's not new, but this gave me an excuse to dig up an old record that rarely gets heard. Enjoy!

Living Ain't Worth Dying For

We were going for a John Cougar Mellencamp, Americana, country-rock thing. We have no interest in having a message, hence the stupid words. And we think vague singing about "Uncle Sam", "the war", "the factory", etc., is funny.

Aquamarine

Another Geese song. I wrote this for my wife, who was meeting her father for the first time at age 36. Hope you like it!

Songs of Nothing

In the studio we have many white boards, and upon one a friend wrote the nonsense, "Songs of nothing/Words in the night/Fancy delight". I turned it into a song as meaningless as its inspiration. Sorry about the harmonica.

in formal cat

This is much more the style I usually work in. Poppy, punky, and fuzzy. Maybe it's just because of the low grade equipment I use, but my songs always turn into big saturated buzz-fests. At least with this one, it was no accident. As usual, recorded by myself with guitars and robots. Hope you enjoy. Lyrics inside.

23rd Century

Here's a track from my album about wanting to be a robot. I figure lots of you folks can probably relate. My band is currently touring the east coast, with dates in VA, NC, WV, MD, PA, NJ, NY, CT, and VT. Details inside!

Here Lies a Lonely Man

Under an archway, cross a cobblestone floor through an old wooden door. There's an apartment, and someone lives there, but does anyone care?

The Way I Feel

Another Geese song! I wrote this song a little more than ten years for the woman who eventually became my wife. My original recording was simply me and a guitar, neither sounding particularly good. I recently re-recorded it, and, well, hear what happened. For more, you can go to my music site (forgive my self-promotion). Enjoy!

Requiem for the Living

The new album is more or less finished, so I thought I'd offer you guys another sneak peek. A shoot-from-the-hip rock song - Let's drink to the things that died too soon.

Save the Fattest Girl for Me

A pop-rock song about bypassing the supermodels and going straight for the solid girls. Tried to write it catchy, melodic and rockin. Feedback would be much appreciated.

two can go low

Most of my songs are sparse. This one is not! It's got "a lot of sound," and some bite. Does it kick buttocks? You decide.

There is a Light

The final song from The Olivers' slap-happy EP. Complete with bald-faced Beatles and U2 references. Listen, Comment, Favorite, and Add To Playlist. Enjoy!

crazy

A cover of the first verse and chorus of the Gnarls Barkley song, primitively recorded live a while back when I had a cold. My wife was really into the song and I recorded this for her as a goof, but it came out kinda good.

Threshold (demo 5) by the Geese

I've been working on this song for 18 months -- sort of. I have had the whole thing essentially finished that whole time... except for the verse tune. Tonight, I finally got it. Power pop complete with organ solo!

Needs

This is the first song I have ever written, on a dare for my husband's alt-country band. They liked it enough to record it. The handclaps make me laugh.

The Road (album version)

you've been awake

Lyrically naughty, musically atmospheric. Features guitars, vocals, brushed drums, African thumb harp, clothes hangers, and a shy half of a fake symphony orchestra.

the vase

My wife accidentally broke a vase. This song resulted. It was recorded in a couple of days inbetween other projects. I used no clicktrack, metronome or drum beat, so the timing is nice and loose (in a good way, I hope). It's short, so listen twice!

Tidal Girl

The Fourth installment by The Olivers, my band with Afroblanco and a few other guys. (Previously 1, 2, 3.) This is another fairly earnest pop-rock song that we think is pretty hot, but without your opinions, we have no real way of knowing, now do we? We thank you all for any thoughts or suggestions you might have.

West of Eden

A backing riff that had been hanging around, nagging at my brain, for several years. Could never find a melody for it, until today, when I found a whole shitload. Twangy instrumental surf, Jazzmaster nirvana. If only bass guitars had whammy bars I'd be in heaven. From my great unreleased album "Cesare Gorgeous and the Strange Attractors play songs of Love and Hate".

John Hughes

The first song off of The Olivers' EP Cleveland Panda Rampage, though the third one to post. (Previously (1, 2)) Afroblanco and I play in a band together. This is a song, well, not about the noble '80's director so much as inspired by his cheesy yet touching brand of passionate sincerity. As always, we want to hear from the people/spambots. Especially the spambots. Thank you.

The second recording of my first visit to my school's media center. It's a song idea that I've been toying with for a long, long time. It's in 7/4... if you like that sort of thing.

Face The Music (Tony Danza)

I forget why Tony Danza was in this song title, but man have you ever seen that guy naked? This is another rockist song from my old band New Blind Nationals. It's got the three guitar attack but with a pulsing disco bass line underneath. I'd like to pretend that Franz Ferdinand stole their best ideas from me while I was sleeping.

The second song to post from our new EP. (Previously) This is my band with Afroblanco and some other guys. We're called The Olivers, and are giddy for your comments, snarky or otherwise.
