Little Red Corvette
Wheel in the Sky (bluegrass cover)
As requested by uncleozzy. I'd like to think this is a song sung by a hard-travelin' man dreaming of his girl—a girl with beautiful long black hair, and a high, soaring voice; Old Man Perry's daughter, Stephanie. [more inside]
Country Death Song
Watching the Detectives
Cover. As requested by Mr. cortex.
Nude (Radiohead cover)
I was surprised to find I'd never posted this to MeFi Music. Yet another Radiohead cover by me and my friend Mel. On MySpace we are Minor Vine. [more inside]
i will (radiohead cover)
Spur-of-the-moment lo-fi live cover of the Radiohead song off Hail to the Thief, to which I added a couple of equally rough overdubs and some reverb. The guitar is out of tune and poorly played, but the vocal melody tweaks are kind of fun. [more inside]
Go Gadget, Go!
A jazzy version of the Inspector Gadget theme song. Apologies in advance if it gets stuck in your head. [more inside]
Here comes your man
Because it hath been requested.
Totally Wired
September Gurls
Stone Cold Bush (Live Version)
Another shitty cover. [more inside]
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
I know, I know, another Neutral Milk Hotel cover from this guy. But bear with me on this one - this was my first ever attempt at recording something. Beware of ridiculous effects, general fuzz, super cool whistilng and wild panning, especially if you are on headphones. [more inside]
Love Me Tender
Death metal remix of Love Me Tender....just kidding I'm playing a uke. [more inside]
Immigrant Song
Cover of a song made popular by Dionne Warwick, I think. [more inside]
This Boy
Cover. Obviously. [more inside]
Holy Diver
Yes, that wasn't an idle threat. For your listening pleasure, I present to you Dio's "Holy Diver" on ukulele, electric ukulele, drums, and far too many vocal tracks. [more inside]
Deixa Isso Pra La
For the current MeFiMu Challenge, here's a song in a language I don't speak. This bit of Portuguese proto-rap is a longtime standard in Brazil. [more inside]
Here come santa claus
Im a nut for Christmas music and the whole holiday season and spirit. [more inside]
Israel/Hit the Road Jack
Forgot to upload this last track from my friend Matt and I. Instrumental, two acoustic guitars. [more inside]
Are You Gonna Go My Way
A few days ago I had a vision that my band did a cover of Are You Gonna Go My Way. Then my band did a cover of Are You Gonna Go My Way. This is that cover. [more inside]
Wish You Were Here (cover)
Some acoustic Pink Floyd. This is my first ever recording, feedback is appreciated. [more inside]
The Sky Was Pink (cover)
A cover of a song I absolutely love. [more inside]
(Elizabeth) On the Bathroom Floor [Eels Cover]
A cover of the Eels tune from Electro-Shock Blues, a wonderful pop opera.
King of Carrot Flowers
Everyone loves Positive Yogurt Motel. [more inside]
The Pianimal: Episode 1 - Tom Waits Covers
Recorded live in my living room on Monday night, the debut episode of this four-song, one-take podcast is my way of making sure I DO something with the piano in the corner. Each song fits a certain theme (this episode, it's Tom Waits covers), and there are no re-takes or edits allowed. It's the Pianimal -- and it's ALIVE! [more inside]
燃えろいい女 (Moero Ii Onna)
Another Saladabar song. This is a rough mix of a song we were asked to cover for a compilation of 80s Japanese rock songs. [more inside]
True Love Will Find You in the End (Daniel Johnston cover)
This is my take on a beautiful Daniel Johnston song that I learned from melissa may and sleepy pete. [more inside]
FAIRWAY
Another cover of a Japanese band, this time from SUPERCAR. (Previously.) This arrangement mimics the version on the album Futurama. [more inside]
コトノハ (Kotonoha/Literary Words)
A late-night experiment in three-part harmony, which isn't a good idea since I'm not much of a singer, if the warbly low notes are any indication. It's an even worse idea when it's a cover of a song performed by Hajime Chitose, who really can sing. [more inside]
Take Five
Another one from my friend Matt and I. Instrumental, two acoustic guitars. [more inside]
Oops... I Did It Again
Sigh. This surfaced last night when we found a cache of very old CDs in our practice space. This is a relic from when my band was much younger, with a different name (Grumpy Alice... you can see why we changed it), different sound, different attitude, etc. This song... well, I like the dialog section in the middle...
Super Disco Breakin' (Beastie Boys Cover)
With piano ivories, shimmering vocals and far too much sincerity, I have transmographied the Beastie Boys' energetic party-chant into a mostly miserable, quasi-beautiful, semi-epic, completely human piano ballad. [more inside]
I Do It For Your Love
A Paul Simon cover from the same session as Bob-omb Battlefield. Instrumental, two acoustic guitars. [more inside]
Misty
Solo guitar. One quick and dirty take, recorded with the windows open. [more inside]
Pacific Street (Hem Cover)
My favorite Hem song. It was first an outtake from Rabbit Songs then later a track on Eveningland. [more inside]
Lazy Mary
The strangest thing happened to me the other day. I was flipping through the radio dial, and every station was playing a cover of Lou Monte's version of Lazy Mary in a style that I despise. It sounded something like this. [more inside]
My Girl
We were young. We had a 4-track, a room full of instruments, and several pots of coffee. We'd just learned how to mess with vocals by speeding them up or slowing them down. Things got weird. [more inside]
Black Rock Lizard dance remix
Wait for it...
Here's a kicky little dance remix of a tune I previously posted. [more inside]
Dear Hilary
A cover of a song by Burning Airlines. Not about the senator from NY. [more inside]
Sweden
Bob-omb Battlefield
An arrangement of a Super Mario 64 song that I made with my friend Matt. Instrumental, two acoustic guitars. [more inside]
Hey Ya
An a cappella arrangement of the Outkast release, somewhat inspired by Mat Weddle's fantastic acoustic cover. [more inside]
Gideon (MMJ cover)
Quick solo acoustic cover of the My Morning jacket song. [more inside]
Colonel Roger (is a Soldier from the Future (is a Cover))
I know this song has been uploaded right at the very end (if not shortly beyond) of the MeFi Music Challenge, but I went through a number of songs in the long debate to find a MeFite's song to cover, eventually landing on the one that most frequently gets stuck in my head. That song is Colonel Roger (is a Soldier from the Future) by chiefbluefeather. [more inside]
Blue Train (the slow one)
I loved baby_balrog and his band's rollicking original of this tune. For this cover, I figured I'd take the train down another track: slowed way down (down on the ground), stripped way down (just vocal and strumstick), and with a little different shade of blue for the engineer's hat.
'Till We're Dead
If a MeFite sticks earworm on me I am gonna put it on here for what of prying it out of my head.
Seriously though, awesome song.
Avery Island (Cover)
I stumbled across this wonderful instrumental on Neutral Milk Hotel's Avery Island today, and came up with an idea. [more inside]
Rock n' roll song (about rock n' roll)
We know that rock about rock rarely rocks. And we know that rock about rock about rock rocks. But how about covers of rock about rock about rock? [more inside]
The Book of Love
For this month's MeFi Music Challenge, just to make things confusing, I'm offering a cover of a cover. Specifically, it's a cover of Sleepy Pete and Melissa May's The Book of Love (which, of course, is also a cover--not to mention a hard act to follow). [more inside]
Clotho
Did you ever play Columns for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive? [more inside]
